Updates
Keep the executable directory writable and prepare clients to reconnect after automatic updates.
The licensed agent updates automatically. Keep its executable directory writable and make local clients reconnect after updates.
What happens
The agent verifies a new release and checks that it can start with your configuration and reach a region before installing it. The running release keeps serving during that check. A failed check leaves the running release in place.
Host requirements
- Run the executable from a directory the agent's account can write, such as
/opt/swqosin the installation guide. - Keep that directory writable under service sandboxing. With systemd's
ProtectSystem=strict, addReadWritePaths=/opt/swqos. - Keep the configuration readable and valid.
- If you launch through a symbolic link, keep the target file's directory writable.
Updates preserve owner access to the executable and remove group and other permissions. Use the dedicated account from the service example.
What clients see
Installing an update closes local HTTP, QUIC and IPC connections. Reconnect once the listeners return. IPC clients must open a new session and repeat the handshake.
A lost reply leaves the transaction's outcome unknown. Check its signature before sending a replacement. See Confirmation and retries.
Run --canary to see the installed release number.
When an update fails
Read journalctl -u swqos for warnings with release= and error= fields.
- For
installorPermission deniederrors, check directory ownership, read-only mounts and service sandboxing. - For
staged release failed its canary, include the precedingerror:lines when contacting support. - If network access failed, restore access to the region hosts.
The running release remains in service when an update attempt fails. After fixing a host problem, restart the service to trigger a fresh attempt. Contact support if the failure persists.
Replacing the executable yourself
When ZeroCopy provides a replacement, stop the service, follow Install the agent, verify the checksum and start the service again.
